The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR).
Most major towns and cities have ATMs. You can withdraw cash from Visa and MasterCard cards at most major banks. Hotels and major shops will accept debit / credit cards. Before you travel, ask your bank if your cards will work in Sri Lanka.

If you are carrying foreign currency when departing from or arriving in Sri Lanka, you are required to make a declaration to Sri Lanka Customs in the following cases:
When departing from Sri Lanka, if you are carrying foreign currency notes exceeding 10,000 USD (or its equivalent in other foreign currencies) declare it to Customs.
When arriving in Sri Lanka, if you are bringing in foreign currency notes exceeding 15,000 USD (or its equivalent in other foreign currencies) declare it to Customs.

Consider purchasing travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances during your trip, such as medical emergencies. While not mandatory, it is highly recommended for your peace of mind. We recommend all guests purchase travel insurance that includes Covid-19 cancellation cover. If you need to cancel for Covid-19, or any other reason, we will be happy to provide you with documentation to support your insurance claim.

International bank cards master / visa / amex is widely used in cities and towns.
A printed copy of your eVisa approval letter/ETA approval notice issued by the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration (on arrival visa is also available).
Your passport with at least six months validity from the date of entry into Sri Lanka.
A return ticket or proof of onward travel from Sri Lanka.
Sufficient funds to meet the expenses in Sri Lanka.
Verifiable evidence of COVID-19 vaccination in English (recommended).
Visitors of both genders have to wear decent clothing to cover the body appropriately when visiting religious places and shorts and sleeveless tops are not acceptable. This rule is strictly adhered to at all religious sites especially the Sacred Bo Tree and Stupas in Anuradhapura and the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Visitors should remove hats, caps, shoes and slippers when entering buildings and sites with religious monuments. Most of these places have a secure facility at the entrance for visitors to leave behind shoes and slippers.
